Openet’s Parental Controls Application Enables Service Providers to Drive Youth Adoption

April 22, 2008 - Openet

DUBLIN, Ireland – April 22, 2008 – Openet, the leading provider of Transactional Intelligence for the world’s largest and most innovative service providers, today announced the availability of its Parental Controls application. Leveraging the Openet FusionWorks Product Suite™, Openet’s Parental Controls application enables parents to extend the convenience of wireless services to their children while still maintaining appropriate usage boundaries.

The youth market remains largely untapped by service providers because until now, parents did not have a method to prohibit inappropriate use of a device. In addition, parents previously lacked the ability to control the amount of time their children spent on a wireless device, resulting in sticker shock when the bill arrived. By providing flexibility and control, Openet has answered the call for a solution that eases the concern of parents around inappropriate use and out-of-control bills.

“While the wireless industry has seen widespread adoption in most demographics, the youth market has lagged behind significantly—representing a missed revenue opportunity for service providers,” said Openet Chief Marketing Officer Michael Manzo begin_of_the_skype_highlighting     end_of_the_skype_highlighting. “With Openet’s Parental Controls application, telecom operators now can offer their customers the needed mix of flexibility and controls to spur youth adoption and boost revenue.”

The Openet Parental Controls application empowers parents to:
  • Prevent children from using specific services;
  • Cap the total amount of spending for children while allowing calls to designated numbers, such as home and emergency services, after the limit is reached;
  • Limit the amount of usage by service, such as a maximum number of music downloads or gaming usage;
  • Control access to services by time-of-day, day-of-week and specially designated times,  such as peak hours, and days, such as holidays;
  • Limit access to services based on the children’s location, such as while they are school;
  • Block communications to and from designated senders and recipients;
  • Only allow communications to and from designated senders and recipients;
  • Control access to Web content based on pre-filtered Website addresses that are designated as pornographic, violent or other inappropriate content.
As consumers continually demand services that cater to their individual needs, Tier 1 service providers will be forced to answer the call to ensure customer loyalty and reduce churn. Openet’s Parental Control application equips service providers with the dynamic business controls necessary to offer a plethora of services and meet the growing demands of existing customers while simultaneously attracting new ones.
