Openet’s Online Charging System Deployed By Bell Mobility As Part of New HSPA Network

December 7, 2009 - Openet

DUBLIN, Ireland – December 7, 2009 – Openet, the leading provider of Transactional Intelligence for the world’s largest and most innovative network service providers, today announced that Bell Mobility has deployed Openet’s 3GPP compliant FusionWorks™ Online Charging (OCS) System as part of its HSPA network upgrade. Openet was selected for this project in 2008 and the solution, along with Bell’s HSPA network, went live this month. The deployment of Openet’s OCS products will help enable Bell to rollout a broader array of new services and business models.

Openet’s FusionWorks OCS system, which consists of FusionWorks Convergent Charging, Network Edge Rating and Balance Manager products, was selected to enable new personalized services with a wide range of Openet’s Transactional Intelligence revenue management solutions for pre- and post-paid data charging, rating and subscription control. This is a key enabler for revenue growth in existing and new services for Bell and will allow the company to broaden its offerings based on activity trends of pre- and post-paid subscribers.

“After a competitive evaluation process, we selected Openet’s FusionWorks OCS system based on product innovation, system robustness, and high performance characteristics to meet our demanding network needs,” said Stephen Howe, Bell Mobility’s Chief Technology Officer. “Our subscribers and our business will both benefit from our deployment of Openet’s Convergent Charging, Network Edge Rating and Balance Manager products.”

“The Canadian wireless market is evolving, and Bell needed a flawless online charging system to continue to innovate, roll out and profit from new services for its subscribers,” said Mike Manzo, CMO at Openet. “Bell’s decision to evolve its network charging and rating capability was made in order to deploy a solution that could support both current and future business models and scale accordingly. Openet’s FusionWorks products fits the bill on both counts, and we look forward to a long-standing relationship with Bell as it continues to lead the way for telecom service in Canada.”

Offering mobile speeds as high as 21 Megabits per second (21 Mbps), the new HSPA network launched by Bell this month covers 1.2 million square kilometers, reaching approximately 20,000 Canadian towns and cities and 93% of the population. The new network also supports international roaming in more than 200 countries around the globe.
