Openet Telecom to Help Deploy New IP Based Network Service for a Leading U.S. Wireless Carrier

March 26, 2001 - Openet

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif., March 26, 2001 - Openet Telecom, a leading Dublin-based provider of network usage and business infrastructure solutions for the telecommunications industry, today announced it has signed a comprehensive, substantial contract for network usage data mediation solutions with a major Tier-1 wireless carrier. The carrier awarded the contract to Openet in December of last year. The carrier will deploy Openet's FusionWorks™ convergent mediation platform as the foundation for its business support systems that includes billing, customer care, data warehousing, fraud management and other related applications. The agreement marks Openet's initial foray into the U.S. telecommunications market. Since its inception two years ago, Openet has served some of Europe's leading service providers, offering its patented FusionWorks™ platform to millions of subscribers abroad.

"The carrier told us they needed a platform that could co-exist with its tried and true legacy systems, seamlessly integrate and deploy new service-based programs, and be flexible enough to manage the wireless IP marketplace," explained Barry Murphy, Openet's CEO. "Since the beginning, this has formed the basis of Openet's value proposition - giving our customers the power, control and ease to bring new services to market in record time. We believe that the inherently convergent-based design of FusionWorks, its ability to handle both 2G and 3G wireless, as well as Openet's ability to provide a lower cost of ownership, were key considerations in securing our agreement with the carrier."

"Openet is establishing itself as a global leader of network usage and billing mediation solutions," said Mark Loveland, head of e business research at JP Morgan H&Q. "Securing this particular wireless carrier as its first U.S. customer demonstrates the confidence the company has in Openet's technology and its ability to deliver. This is clearly a very important customer win for Openet and shows its ability to sell successfully into Tier One telecoms operators. This also represents a clear indication of the important transitions underway within the mediation industry."

Openet's FusionWorks™ platform will collect the carrier's subscriber usage information for a wide variety of network elements and services including: Current and future voice services on circuit switched networks, new data services on GPRS network, WAP gateways, Value Added Services servers, Mail and other typical IP network infrastructure.
