Openet Executive Elected Vice Chairman of 3GPP SA5 Charging Sub Working Group

November 10, 2009 - Openet

DUBLIN, Ireland – November 10, 2009 – Openet, a provider of Transactional Intelligence solutions for the world’s largest and most innovative service providers, today announced that Alan McNamee, vice president of technology and chief science officer, has been elected vice chairman of the Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) SA5 Telecom Management Working Group.  The working group focuses on specifying the framework and requirements for management of the 3G system, including charging.

Within SA5, the Charging Sub Working Group is dedicated to delivering architecture and protocol specifications related to charging features of an evolved 3rd Generation, and beyond, mobile system.  Upcoming 3GPP releases will result in the Charging Sub-Workgroup defining specifications relating to areas such as MMTel, IMS, MBMS and IWLAN mobility.

“3GPP continues to provide direction and leadership by setting specifications for next-gen networks, and charging is clearly a significant challenge for carriers during the migration to 3G and beyond,” said McNamee.  “This opportunity to be a vice chairman in the Charging Sub-Work group enables Openet to demonstrate its commitment to 3GPP.  We look forward to participating in defining charging specifications in the upcoming 3GPP releases, which will ultimately be adopted by telecom operators around the world.”

Openet has a long track record in the charging space, and is best known for its FusionWorks™ Convergent Charging product.
