Study Shows Best-of-Breed BSS Solutions Best Serve Operator Business

April 11, 2014 - Openet

DUBLIN, Ireland – April 9, 2014 – Openet, a global leader of telecom business systems, today announced the results of wide-reaching industry research regarding the BSS strategies of mobile operators. The vast majority of respondents indicated that current market challenges are better addressed through BSS from specialist vendors than with the less capable offerings from network equipment providers.

The research, conducted by Intelligence, incorporates the input of more than 100 operators worldwide. Operators reported that truly flexible BSS solutions from specialty vendors are the best option to improve service and pricing innovation, multi-vendor interoperability and system flexibility.

“Our recent research found that operators around the globe understand the important role best-of-breed BSS solutions play in enabling business growth,” said Chris Hoover, GVP of Marketing at Openet. “As operators meet the opportunities emerging within the digital economy, they are increasingly looking to specialist BSS vendors to enable them to personalize services, develop new business models and respond faster to unpredictable market conditions.”

The survey highlighted key benefits of working with specialist BSS vendors relative to those provided by network equipment providers. Over 72% said that specialist providers enabled a faster time to market for new pricing models, 75% said they enabled better service and pricing innovation, and 76% felt specialists provided greater system flexibility.

“As the industry moves from 3G to LTE, we are seeing real-time BSS become increasingly important. This is not just for billing and charging functions such as bill shock and data tier management, but also for analytics and reporting. Operators are increasingly seeing the opportunities that real-time BSS data can enable such as smart upsell offers triggered by real-time contextual information to provide more personalized offers for subscribers,” said Peter Dykes, senior analyst at Informa Telecoms & Media. “Flexibility and a fast time–to-market strategy are more important than ever for operators, and the recent survey results prove the benefits of a best of breed BSS strategy.”
