Openet Telecom Adds High Availability Functionality to Mediation Platform

October 15, 2001 - Openet

15th October, 2001; Openet Telecom, the world leader in convergent mediation, today announced the release of FusionWorks™ High Availability. This automated management system continuously monitors the availability of FusionWorks™ components throughout its users' global communications networks, assuring maximum mediation effectiveness. In the event of a hardware malfunction or power failure, for example, FusionWorks™ High Availability instantly identifies the non-responsive mediation component, alerts the operator and works independently to restart that component. The system will also automatically activate a secondary system if the component continues to be unresponsive.

"By quickly identifying and responding to failed systems, FusionWorks™ High Availability increases the availability and reliability of network usage monitoring, thereby reducing the chance of lost data and the revenue it represents," said Barry Murphy, CEO of Openet Telecom. "The addition of this high-value functionality represents Openet's ongoing commitment to ensuring that its customers have the most advanced options for implementing their revenue assurance strategy and guarding against failure. FusionWorks™ High Availability responds, whether the problem is the result of a relatively minor hardware failure or something as large as a natural disaster that disables a computer at a remote location."

FusionWorks™ is a high-performance convergent mediation platform that unifies customer usage patterns from legacy network infrastructures, IP networks and next-generation mobile networks. Its convergent capabilities enable communication service providers to better understand their customers in today's competitive market. Additional capabilities recently added to the FusionWorks™ platform include improved system security, carrier-class scalability and performance, and an enhanced set of data collectors that enable faster installation and configuration processes.

"As a result of the recent tragedies of September 11, The Yankee Group recommends that communication service providers develop resilient plans for business continuity in times of trouble," said analyst David Hawley of The Yankee Group. "FusionWorks' High Availability option addresses this issue for mediation systems."

Openet's FusionWorks™ platform is used by European communication service providers as well a major North American Tier-1 wireless carrier. At the heart of the platform is the Dynamic Business Engine, which supports new network elements and content and data services with little or no downtime through customisable business logic rules. FusionWorks™ is fully compatible with operational, business and decision support applications for billing, fraud control, churn management and CRM.
