Openet Enables Cost-Saving Convergent Pre-Paid Voice and Data Solution for Orange Switzerland

May 9, 2005 - Openet

Dublin, Ireland and Reston, VA, 9th May 2005; Openet Telecom, a world leader in real-time charging, advanced mediation and network-edge rating announced today that it is part of a combined solution deployed at Orange Switzerland which is moving away from the legacy IN architecture supporting pre-paid services. This new architectural model manages revenue generation from voice and data services for Orange Switzerland's new entry-level price plan, orangeclick which is a self-managed, convergent pre-paid voice and data service.

In order to bring the entry-level price service orangeclick to market, Orange Switzerland needed a network architecture that would deliver assured revenue generation and service management with reduced operational costs. By eliminating traditional customer acquisition cost elements and legacy IN platforms, Orange Switzerland now offers new entry-level price plans for calls and services, making them competitive in a busy market place and helping them retain valuable customers.

By placing intelligence at the network edge, orangeclick can apply value-based charging, bundling and other sophisticated pricing functionality to all subscribers. With the customer self-management enabled by this solution, customers benefit from enhanced usability while operational costs are reduced for the operator. This single, convergent solution for handling pre-paid voice and data services leads to lower ongoing maintenance costs, a single point of business logic configuration and a single view of the customer.

The system deployed at orangeclick/Orange Switzerland is a combination solution offered by Openet, HP (OC-SAC for call handling), Cisco (CSG for data traffic handling), Portal and ATG. It is pre- and post-paid agnostic, offering substantial charging and tariff plan flexibility. Balance management is no longer managed by an Intelligent Network platform. Instead, a single instance of FusionWorks bridges the network and IT worlds and collects from separate voice and data network elements. FusionWorks handles customer balance and credit-risk information, pricing and general transaction flow. FusionWorks' asynchronous interfaces and sophisticated caching algorithms dramatically reduce the load on downstream systems and reduce latency levels.

"We are delighted to be involved in this combined solution that demonstrates an innovative and cost effective way for operators to deliver competitive voice and data services rapidly and efficiently", stated John Rainger, CEO Openet Telecom. "This deployment consolidates Openet's position at the forefront of thought leadership in delivering low cost of ownership charging solutions that work to the world's leading operators".

The convergence capability of the solution means that it can support Orange Switzerland's circuit-switched GSM and GPRS networks, with the potential to manage all voice, SMS, WAP, MMS and IP traffic. orangeclick subscribers can manage their own services through a web-based self-provisioning, management and customer care system. This enables auto-top-ups of pre-paid balance and on-line bill presentment. In this interactive environment, FusionWorks Mediation offers Orange Switzerland the vital capability to rapidly configure new services and deliver high levels of system availability and scalability.
