Openet Drives Mediation Market Forward with New Release of Carrier-Class FusionWorks Mediation

March 2, 2005 - Openet

Dublin, Ireland and Reston, VA, 2nd March 2005; Openet Telecom, a world leader in advanced mediation, real-time charging and network-edge rating, has further advanced the mediation market by helping operators manage complex business structures and geographies and to accelerate their data-handling capability.

As well as handling billions of events per day, generating significant service revenue for many of the world’s leading operators, Openet technology currently processes multiple billions of dollars per month worth of business for its customers around the world. Version 4.1 is built on the rapidly evolving needs of this global customer base. It is packed with new customer-driven features including the ability for operators with widely distributed operations or many different operating companies to collect data, process business logic and quickly distribute data at a very granular level. It also gives operators the capability to detect and repair errors across legacy and next generation platforms, thereby maximising revenue generation.

FusionWorks Mediation continues to offer unparalleled Return on Investment through its ability to converge network environments, protect existing network investment and future proof for emerging technologies, networks and services. Most of all, FusionWorks is based on the principle of giving users maximum independence, thereby accelerating time to market for new services and reducing overall operating/services costs.

“The direct involvement of our customers in the ongoing development of Openet’s solutions helps us to innovate relevantly, answering the ever-changing demands of the global telecommunications business”, stated John Rainger, CEO Openet. “Openet Telecom is totally committed to the delivery of the best solutions in the mediation, rating and charging arena. Broad market acceptance of our innovations is proof of Openet’s success. Our solutions are already proven in many of the most challenging network environments in the world, delivering multi-service capability and the freedom to develop and test new rules.”

The major new features available in Version 4.1 include:

Multiple Workspaces - Adding to the foundation of Distributed Correlation introduced in v3.6, ‘Multiple Workspaces’, available in Version 4.1, delivers separation and geographic distribution of business logic, reducing the cost of changes to business logic, enabling risk-free introduction of new products and services and the minimization of changes to existing ones. One of Europe's largest operators will use this feature upon release to manage a multi-country installation, managing both their IP data and PSTN voice mediation as separate entities over the same FusionWorks Mediation installation - for a truly convergent solution. This eliminates the need to manage geographically dispersed multiple installations of FusionWorks, reduces the resources required to support additional installations and allows all business logic to reside on a single system.

Fast Data Store - Version 4.1’s new ‘Fast Data Store’ is an optional component that allows the storage and retrieval of data for correlation at speeds up to ten times previous performance. Now operators can handle the ever-increasing and vast volumes of data associated with new data services faster than ever and at a lower total cost of ownership. Fast Data Store is an in-memory database that allows for the real-time processing demands of new data services. This is especially important for those operators rolling out data and Voice-over-IP services over legacy Intelligent Networks and billing systems built originally for voice traffic. Without this capability, existing networks and billing systems will struggle to meet the high volume demands of new IP services.

Enhanced Error Event Management - This enables error detection and repair, giving operators the capability to mend service-related correlated event records for voice and data services, to ensure water-tight revenue management of voice and data products and services.

Usability - Finally, Version 4.1’s usability enhancements make FusionWorks Mediation even easier to use. Its improved and streamlined operation reflects feedback from its use in the most demanding network environments in the world.

This latest release is a result of the real business partnership Openet has with its customer base”, stated Ger Curtin, VP Engineering, Openet. “Our customer relationships keep us relevant to the market and our global, Tier-1 base ensures we continue to deliver innovative and proven solutions that work”.
