27th November, 2001; Openet Telecom, the world leader in convergent mediation, has facilitated the successful integration of data between ESAT and Ocean, following their merger under BT last year.
"In any merger, IT integration can become a headache as systems do not always mesh easily," said Denis Cronin (Billing Development Manager, ESAT Business). "With FusionWorks, we were able to seamlessly integrate the data from the various different switches without any problems."
By leveraging FusionWorks' convergent functionality, data is mediated from both Ericsson AXE and Nortel DMS switches. All mediated output is now passed to a consolidated set of three back office applications - subscriber billing, interconnect billing and fault management system.
"Openet is a truly convergent, scalable mediation system which is hardware and software independent," said Luke Brennan, Account Manager, Openet Telecom. "FusionWorks™ not only meets the needs of ESAT's existing fixed-line network, but was also able to meet the needs of the new integrated network. In reality, it is even future-proofed for IP mediation through the same core."
Openet's convergent mediation solution, FusionWorks, was already being deployed by ESAT before the merger of Esat and Ocean. "We originally installed FusionWorks™ to bring new services to market in record time and deal with changing business scenarios," added Denis Cronin.
Many communication service providers are restricted in their ability to deliver new services because of their legacy billing systems. Openet's FusionWorks™ solves this problem since it has the capability to simultaneously handle traditional circuit-switched infrastructure as well as the systems required for new and emerging communications technologies.
Openet's FusionWorks™ offers the added flexibility of customisable business rules. "This gives us the power to control the software and incorporate our own business rules in what is such a rapidly changing market. It means we are not vendor dependent when situations arise, which was a problem with other solution providers," said Denis Cronin.
