BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT IN THE CLOUD
ViaSat is a US based satellite operator providing high-speed satellite broadband services and secure networking systems to military and commercial markets. With the launch of its second satellite in 2017 and a third due to launch in 2020, the capacity available to sell is growing rapidly. ViaSat’s competitive differentiation is on speed and capacity. The new mobility division focuses on non-static services. ViaSat needed a solution to rapidly deploy new services and scale very quickly to growing and variable demand.
Openet supplied its cloud-based Policy Manager solution to ViaSat running on Amazon Web Services (AWS). The initial use case supports the sale of service passes to airline passengers. Openet Policy Manager running on AWS supports:
- Scalability to meet ViaSat’s aggressive sales targets for its growing range of services
- Agility to launch a variety of service pass options based on airline, travel class, promotions and customer preferences
- Rapid time to market to support multiple content partnering and sponsorship opportunities
- Scaling to manage high and variable traffic densities at airport hubs during peak times and periods of delay or disruption
ViaSat in-flight internet offers passengers new levels of high speed access from gate to gate. Openet Policy running on AWS is scalable to manage wildly varying demand patterns and agile to develop new services in a business characterised by intense commercial pressures.
