Openet Tackles RAN Congestion

June 30, 2010 - Openet

DUBLIN -- Openet, the leading provider of subscriber optimization software supplying Transactional Intelligence for the world’s largest and most innovative network service providers, today announces the launch of its RAN Congestion solution. Supported by Openet’s FusionWorks™ Policy Manager product, Radio Access Network (RAN) Congestion solution supplies policies where needed to leverage proven technology for network congestion forecasting, to enable operators to make real-time traffic management decisions to improve the subscriber experience.

A growing number of wireless operators need to manage the subscriber experience to ensure optimal service and performance. Continually adding capacity does not address the underlying problem as subscribers typically change their behavior to consume whatever bandwidth is available. As a result, operators need to manage data transmission bottlenecks from the radio network to the IP network. This challenge of managing data plane bottlenecks is difficult to solve, because user traffic profiles and usage patterns are continuously changing.

Openet’s RAN Congestion solution combines network forecasting with key policy management capabilities. This functionality enables operators to determine what resources are allocated appropriately to subscribers, to ensure a higher-quality experience in congested areas. This proactive approach enables operators to mitigate the effect of performance issues on subscribers before they occur. Powered by Openet’s industry-leading Policy Manager product, RAN Congestion augments topology awareness and advanced forecasting functionality to ensure optimized network performance.
