Seeing is Believing – Openet and Procera demonstrate NFV at MWC 2014

By April 3, 2014 No Comments

Mobile World Congress is an exciting event. There is a real buzz of anticipation around the halls as people finally get to see the latest smartphones, tablets, and a vast array of new wearable devices. Lots of these things have been touted for years, but allowing customers to really get their hands on the product makes it so much more real.

The same is true of software. At MWC earlier this year Openet and Procera were able to demonstrate our joint Revenue Express solution in a virtualized environment. Revenue Express combines Openet’s Policy Manager and Procera’s Intelligent Policy Enforcement to give the industry’s first end-to-end turnkey Policy and Charging Control (PCC) solution that significantly reduces deployment time and configuration allowing service providers to quickly implement revenue generating policies.

It’s very rewarding to be able to demonstrate our integrated PCC solution, delivered in a true Network Function Virtualization (NFV) environment. This is an exciting venture for Procera, as we have partnered with Openet, the proven industry leader in policy management solutions. This joint partnership has been propelled forward by us being the first to market in the space.

The solution demonstrates many of the advantages of NFV use cases, such as elasticity where the capacity dedicated to each virtualized network function can be dynamically modified according to actual load on the network. Even better, we were able to demonstrate several of the Revenue Express uses cases including service plan provisioning and enforcement of tiered service and service pass. This allows operators to accelerate data monetization by introducing segmented pricing that aligns network usage with revenue.

Mobile World Congress can be a tough week, but it is very rewarding to demonstrate these new and innovative technologies to the people who can appreciate the possibilities that they create.
