Optimal Deployment Options

Openet will add efficiencies and ensure a more optimal future, regardless of the stage of your current evolution. There is no need for “rip and replace” or “forklifting”, unless of course you need that. Whether you need an evolution or revolution we are here to bring success, faster.

MORE POWERFUL PCC

A consolidated Policy and Charging Control (PCC) approach enables complete replacement of inflexible, conventional platforms as operators look to construct more horizontal BSS architectures across their voice, broadband, mobile, IPTV and evolving service portfolios. The introduction of PCC is consigning traditional billing platforms to an offline role, while at the same time making real-time rating, charging and control more powerful. Openet PCC delivers the performance, scalability, and flexibility demanded by the world’s largest and most complex carrier networks. Openet is the most credible and proven independent vendor focused on combinational 4G/5G Real-time Policy and Charging Controls.

BENEFITS OF COMBINING POLICY & CHARGING

The sophistication of more tightly integrated Policy and Charging components ensures fuller flexibility, for example the flexibly to rapidly enable personalized marketing campaigns and pricing plans. Fuller BSS efficiencies are enabled via a combined approach to access and payment convergence. This is resource control as well as monetisation via as single, much more powerful asset set.

Easy Integration

As an agile, specialist, independent provider, Openet has a vast library of API’s and experience of integration to a large number of other vendors’ stacks.

More Flexible Service Mesh & Container-Native Microservices Architecture

Openet is using best-in-class open-source enablers to deploy and manage its microservices-based solutions. These are enabling incredible flexibility and webscale for rapidly emerging use-cases. They are also providing opex efficiencies never seen before. This includes use of Elasticstack to manage and visualise the massive amount of data as it emerges.

Efficient & Effective Microservices

Policy and Charging have often been considered separately within the operator environment. As new and complimentary approaches manifest including DevOps, microservices and Continuous Integration / Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) so too do richer capabilities that break down the traditional approach into more bitesize value. A microservices approach removes the “fork-lift” type of upgrade and introduces an “update” rather than “upgrade” method of evolution. It reduces
“shocks” to the rest of the network. Downtime during updates can be removed and it enables new business model benefits that transfer to end-users. The result is a more powerful, microservices-based PCC with richer, real-time enablement.

5G SBA and Openet’s Focus

The 5G Services-Based Architecture (SBA) has been designed around services that are invoked using a standard API. It may seem like a dramatic shift from 4G and in some respects it is. Critical functions like Charging and Policy are still there but now supported by a richer set of enablers. 4G EPC components have been reorganized into more service-oriented functions.
Openet’s emphasis within the SBA is deliberate and value-driven. Our aim is to prioritise based on where most value for our customers will be derived and we are the most proven, independent enabler of the functions we have emphasised.

VoltDB & Openet

VoltDB has an extremely strong technical foundation. signed by the database pioneer Dr Michael Stonebraker, it’s a very fast in-memory database that is a perfect match for many of our customers’ workloads. It also had much better HA and scalability characteristics than older databases. Of course Openet won’t ignore other databases but has preferred VoltDB in recent deployments.
Volt DB advantages include:
•    No requirement for a SAN or specific requirements for virtualization.
•    Split of workload so that each transaction is handled by one core only. This actually speeds things up, as no time is wasted deciding on responsible resources. There is no more fighting between cores.
•    Designed on the assumption that the data you work with will fit into memory. This is a long standing requirement for all latency-sensitive solutions. So there is no more transfer to and from disc.
•    Allows you to write to disk outside transactions. Openet has 2 granted patents on using this technology to back up critical data when needed without requiring a SAN.
•    Designed to avoid locking issues and thus makes things like shared balances easy.
•    More efficient failover behaviour as nodes never have to catch up after an outage.
•    ACID compliance (Atomicity, Consistency, Isolation, Durability).
•    Optimised for a distributed environment that runs on any cloud at lower TCO.

Openet Patent Focus

The variety and number of patents owned by Openet is large and expanding. These have been critical to the competitive success of Openet and its customers. Great ideation is encouraged throughout Openet and ideas have come from various parts of the organisation. As we move to 5G and more powerful capabilities of networks the rate of Openet patent activity has increased even faster. Openet has been adding to its patent portfolio and coordinating its patent strategy with its product strategy and focus. This process is built on decades of experience of driving the progress, value and vision of leading-edge service providers.
