Openet provides a solution that supports the implementation of usage-based billing for high bandwidth Internet services. Built upon our industry-leading Openet FusionWorks™ Framework, in concert with Policy Enforcement hardware, this solution enables service providers to sell differentiated tiers of service, enforce usage limits and for subscribers to track consumption. As a result, the solution facilitates the better monetization of bandwidth access, through the more granular control of network resources.
The economics of unlimited high-speed Internet service access is under pressure from a small, but growing, number of users consuming a huge percentage of network resources. Openet can support differentiated service delivery, by implementing individual subscriber policies that facilitate the segmentation of data-users by data speed or usage consumption. Allowing subscribers to select the best data package for their needs and for operators to make a reasonable return on their network investments.
Openet enables the real-time metering of high speed Internet access. To successfully meter usage, service providers need to be able to associate individual subscribers and IP-traffic with the associated data packages and policies. With centrally defined and registered policy rules, Openet in concert with Policy Enforcement hardware, records and manages, at the subscriber level, the enforcement against different levels of service thresholds.
In conjunction with the Policy Enforcement hardware, Openet captures and tracks consumption against a subscriber’s data plan. This information is available to be viewed by subscribers to inform them of their consumption habits. It can also be used to trigger automatic notifications, to inform a user when a threshold limits is about to be breached. Where appropriate, this can then be used to support ad hoc increases in bandwidth (i.e. a bandwidth boost) or to support an up-sell to a more suitable data package.
