Cisco and Openet Sign First Customer for OEM Policy Solution

May 7, 2009 - Openet

NICE, France, TM Forum Management World – May 7, 2009 – Openet, the leading provider of Transactional Intelligence for the world’s largest and most innovative network service providers, today announces that through its OEM deal, Cisco® has signed its first contract with a leading Tier 1, U.S. wireline and wireless service provider.  The provider will deploy the Cisco-branded Openet FusionWorks™ Policy Manager product along with Cisco’s Mobility Solutions.  The combined deployment of Openet’s policy solution and Cisco’s deep packet inspection products will enable the operator to automate control over its wireless and wireline networks and maximize revenues from applications and services.

This Tier 1 service provider will leverage a comprehensive suite of solutions that can dynamically control access to, and allocation of, network resources—ultimately generating new revenue sources and improving the customer experience.  The selection of Cisco and Openet solidifies the joint vision of one-stop shopping for a convergent policy architecture that can easily adapt to the rapid innovation in the marketplace.  Openet’s policy solution provides consistent controls across all services and networks, seamlessly enabling operators to apply business logic within their mobile, landline, cable and WiMax networks.

The customer selected these solutions for the ability to manage policy across many different networks, ensuring revenue can be derived from any customer base.  The flexibility and scalability of the Cisco/Openet joint deployment, combined with its tight integration of charging solutions, means that this provider can effectively monetize current and future services and applications at the network’s edge.  Cisco chose to work with Openet on this product due to Openet’s pedigree of innovation and the fact that while it is currently the most effective market player, it is also shaping the future of this industry.

Cisco’s Mobility Solutions enable advanced processing of IP flows through dynamic content examination, subscriber service access control and subscriber account balance enforcement in a highly scalable, robust package.  By tightly integrating Openet’s Transactional Intelligence capabilities with the Cisco deep packet inspection products, Cisco is able to offer a more comprehensive suite of solutions to operators whereby they can dynamically control access to, and allocation of, network resources to generate new revenue sources and improve the customer experience.

“As customer demand for rich services and applications grows, and devices become ever more sophisticated, policy management is becoming crucial for service providers, and this is why the product was selected for this deployment,” said Niall Norton, CEO of Openet.  “With Cisco offering our product under its private label, we can enable this customer and other operators to take control of their networks, and their revenues, across a variety of business lines—a must for service providers worldwide.”
