OVERVIEW:
The Professional Services division is responsible for delivering client mediation solutions - built on Openet’s mediation product set - to customers. This will involve analysis of the customers’ business requirements and implementing a solution to meet these needs in Openet’s rules based platform. The solution will typically be implemented in a combination of DSD, a tcl type scripting language, Shell scripts and in C/C++.

ROLE SUMMARY:
The role of the Oracle DBA in the Professional Services group sees the candidate working on many initiatives in a very fast moving environment, often concurrently. Under the mentorship and guidance of the Lead Engineer in the data engineering team, the primary role is one of providing consultancy and expertise to the general services projects in the Oracle domain to ensure project solutions are architected and implemented successfully.

Some of the tasks required by the role include:
•Working with Professional services project teams during requirements analysis and design phases in defining the correct solution for the project from an Oracle Database standpoint.
•Coding activities and consultancy related to the implementation of proposed solutions.
•General DBA support to the various internal groups in Openet
•Involvement in Value Added Service (VAS) offerings to customers such as database health checks and tuning activities. This work may require some onsite travel to the customer premises.
•Consultancy and development for the Openet Product Group regarding product features, functionality, and new releases that revolve around the ORACLE product.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Takes responsibility for the analysis and design of Oracle related component of customer solutions. This involves being a virtual member of the services delivery team for that customer and covers the full life-cycle
. Advises project teams on deployment architecture where Oracle is concerned, often within a clustered environment where high levels of availability are expected. Produces requirements, functional and design specifications in the course of implementing solutions. Oversees the technical design and implementation of Oracle related components. Guides and supports the engineering staff during the project in this area
. May be expected to implement software modules using PL/SQL programming from time to time
. Provides consultancy services in the area of production system tuning exercises. Carries out analysis of system performance using various tools (e.g. ORACLE StatsPack etc) and reports on recommendations for improving system stability and performance. May work with customer DBA or independently to implement these recommendations
. Shares responsibility for in-house DBA work by carrying out day to day maintenance activities for various Oracle environments in Openet
. Adopts an innovative and committed approach to overcoming obstacles and solving problems in order to successfully deliver on commitments
. Has excellent oral and written communication skills for effective dialogue with customer representatives and with colleagues in Services and other Openet Departments.
• Actively develops own knowledge in the Oracle field – researching new product versions, industry trends, methodologies and technologies. Is expected to pursue professional training as part of career development, e.g. Oracle Certified Professional. Travel for short periods (on average one to two weeks at a time) to customer site.

REQUIREMENTS:

SKILLS

ESSENTIAL:
- Strong technical skills and understanding gained through previous development experience
- Deep understanding of Oracle database products (8i – 10G) to senior DBA level.
- SQL / PL/SQL Programming and tuning experience.
- Experience with production Oracle systems in a UNIX environment (Solaris and HP-UX) and performance tuning of same.
- UNIX scripting.
- Excellent Communications Skills both verbal and written.
- Customer Interaction.
- Product Design and development experience.

USEFUL:
Experience of working in Telecoms Industry. Mediation, Rating or Billing industry experience.
Analysis tools such as Quest Spotlight etc.

EXPERIENCE
Proven record of planning and delivery of products/solutions to customers. Profile of number, size, and type of production environment of Oracle installations delivered. Customer interfacing experience. Delivery of complex products to multiple customers. Ability to multitask and switch between many tasks efficiently whilst under pressure to deliver. Ability to work effectively as part of a team as well on own initiative. Content of industry experience and ability to clearly describe technical content. Product development experience.

QUALIFICATIONS:
