Solution Consultant

Location: Dublin

Reporting to: Manager, Core Technology Group

ROLE SUMMARY:

The Professional Services Group is responsible for developing client mediation solutions, built on Openet’s mediation product set, to customers. This will involve analysis of the customers’ business requirements and implementing a solution to meet these needs in Openet’s rules based platform. The solution will typically be implemented in a combination of DSD (proprietary), a tcl type scripting language, and in C/C++.

The Core Technology group is a global team within professional services that performs the following main functions:

  • Solution consulting across multiple customers and projects.
  • Development and delivery of product demonstrations and proof of concepts (POCs) to support the sales cycle.
  • Encompasses the Openet product training department.
  • Services Project and Core Product Oracle database expertise and consultancy.

The role of a Solution Consultant in the Core Technology Group at Openet requires an in-depth knowledge and experience of telecommunications technology and software architecture and design best practices.  The solution consultant is viewed by the client as an expert in their field and a trusted advisor to whom they look for advice and thought leadership on a regular basis. They must be seen as a strong value contributor and be adept at identifying customer problems and applying their expertise to solve these problems using Openet’s suite of products.

Some of the tasks involved are:

  • Consulting into multiple Professional Services projects on requirements capture, software architecture and design.
  • Consulting into multiple projects to conduct hardware architecture and production sizing exercises.
  • Assisting the sales organisation in solution consulting to key potential customers.
  • Providing education, seminars and workshops both to internal staff and external customers.
  • Working with Openet engineering team on product benchmarks and hardware sizing tools.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support sales teams in customer engagements near the end of the pre-sales cycle to help advise and influence the customer on options for solving their business needs.
  • Works with Professional services team to capture project requirements and scope. This involves visiting customer sites to conduct requirements analysis exercises and to help advise on optimum solution architecture.
  • Continually devise and improve processes, tools and procedures in the area of capacity planning and hardware sizing. This requires in-depth knowledge of Openet products and involvement in benchmark planning and design activates from which to derive sizing models and tools. Keeps up to date with latest offerings from hardware vendors.
  • Strives to promote expertise and knowledge share in Openet by mentoring and offering guidance to Openet staff. This includes running training seminars and workshops both internally and for customers.
  • Helps to develop value added consulting services and deliver such services to Tier 1 clients.
  • Is a recognised expert in the mediation and telecommunications space and understands the customer’s business drivers as well as technical needs deeply.
  • The role demands a broad and deep knowledge of the Telecom OSS industry, telecommunications software technology space and a personal interest in new technologies in hardware, software and processes.
  • Have excellent oral and written communication skills for effective dialogue with colleagues and customers at all levels.
  • Able to represent Openet at customer meetings, presentations and conferences.
  • Willingness to travel – often up to 50%

EDUCATION

Bachelors’ degree or equivalent experience and a minimum of 12 years of experience in the telecommunications industry, of which at least 4 years should have been in a customer facing project consulting or technical consulting role. This experience will have been gained from working with global or local tier 1 Telecommunications Service Providers.

  USEFUL

  • Working with CMM or ISO 9000
  • Telecom networking (ISDN, X.25, SS7).
  • UNIX OS programming background – C, C++, Java
  • Revenue Assurance Experience
  • Other Telco OSS experience
  • Switching / Routing experience

EXPERIENCE INDICATORS

  • Customer consulting and management experience.
  • Leading requirements capture and solution design for complex solutions for multiple customers.
  • Content of industry experience and ability to clearly describe technical content.
  • Any product development experience.
  • Used to working under pressure.
  • Ability to discuss in detail all aspects of the Mediation / Charging / Rating / Balance Management Telecommunications software industry.
  • Able to discuss in depth current architectural and design methodologies and approaches.
  • Detailed work experience related to Telecommunications Software Solution Design.
